Team Ninja and Omega Force are currently developing Hyrule Warriors, a Nintendo Wii U exclusive title that will feature – to no one’s surprise, once reading who’s responsible with its development – gameplay that is very similar to the Dynasty Warriors series.

The game will essentially be a hybrid of The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors, and Nintendo has even officially confirmed that it will be a story-driven hack and slash title, chasing away the shadow of a doubt that some gamers might have still had about the game’s nature.

In Hyrule Warriors, players will be assuming control of Link, the Zelda series’ fabled and tireless protagonist, as he engages in battle against the evil sorceress Cia, who has kidnapped Princess Zelda, according to custom.

Players will explore various environments such as the Hyrule Field and will encounter enemies both new and old, hailing from throughout the Zelda series.

Siliconera reported that the Japanese video game magazine offered a few new details regarding the upcoming game, revealing that it will also have a two-player mode, where the second player will be able to take control of series regular Impa as a playable character.

According to the magazine, the game will feature additional playable characters, in addition to the two revealed, and that when players switch between equipped weapons they will gain access to new fighting abilities. The magazine also reported that Hyrule Warriors will feature a character progression system, as well as various weapon upgrades.

Hyrule Warriors is currently scheduled to launch in Japan, on August 14, exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U entertainment system. The western release date for the upcoming date has not yet been announced, although it is likely that the game will make an appearance during next month’s E3 convention.
