Ubisoft claims that the security breach has been eliminated

After a general outcry from the gaming world, publisher Ubisoft has released a patch which fixes the plug-in based browser vulnerability that its Uplay service was creating.

But some players still believe that the browser plug-in is unnecessary or that other vulnerabilities might appear later, and for them the safest route is simply to uninstall the uPlay service and all its associated files.

For others, Uplay is necessary, but the browser-based element can still be disabled in the most popular browsers.

For Firefox, go to the Tools – Add-ons – Plugins section and then disable the plug-ins Uplay and Uplay PC Hub.

For Opera, the same can be done by going to Settings – Preferences – Advanced – Downloads and then deleting the Uplay add-ons.

For Chrome, users can type chrome://plugins in the address bar and then disable Uplay.

In Internet Explorer, Uplay can be found in the Add-on section.

Disabling the browser element will not affect Uplay as a game service.
