Dan Lind, the leader of the development team working on Hearts of Iron IV, says that one of the biggest improvements of the grand strategy title is that it will create an Artificial Intelligence opponent that can react to un-historical moves on the part of the player.

He tells Matchstickeyes.com that, “With Hearts of Iron IV, we plan to give the player a lot more freedom, where the AI is set up to be able to respond in situations that might be very different from history.”

The developer also explains that the strategic initiatives a player takes will be more important than in any previous entries in the franchise, with the Battle of Britain offered as an example of one of the moments that will be more important.

Hearts of Iron IV is also designed to introduce a more detailed map, simpler ways for gamers to create and launch complex plans, and a new productions system.

Paradox says that its main aim is to create a World War II grand strategy experience that focuses on the possibilities that each state has to dominate its surrounding area rather than on simply following the events of the real world conflict.

The grand strategy title will be delivered in early 2015.
