The music-driven shooter needs to keep players engaged

John Drake, a director working on the newly announced Chroma, says that the Harmonix team working on the music-powered first-person shooter needs to carefully balance the experience in order to make the title appealing to large number of players.

He tells Gamasutra that, “if you go one on one with another player, then you shouldn't know if it's a different input. If you're a third party watching two players shoot at each other, regardless of the input mechanics, the output of those weapons should feel like both of them are musical.”

Chroma is built upon rhythm mechanics, which means that gamers will have to match a beat in order to shoot and that the world around them will change based on choruses and on solos.

Harmonix says that the game aims to be fluid and engaging, with a variety of classes that will appeal to both fans of the rhythm genre and to those who prefer classic FPS titles.

Chroma does not have a launch window yet.
