Halo 5: Guardians' cover depicts Master Chief and a mysterious Spartan and now one of its developers has come forward to dismiss rumors that it's Sarah Palmer or Cortana, saying that he is a new character.

Halo 5 received its first teaser trailer back at E3 2013 last year and now, before the debut of the 2014 edition of the large conference, Microsoft and developer 343 Industries have revealed the first actual details about the game, including its name - Halo 5: Guardians.

The announcement also brought forth an impressive cover for the game, which shows protagonist Master Chief as well as a mysterious Spartan character.

Immediately fans started speculating about who hides behind the helmet, and the blue tint fueled speculation that it might be Cortana, Master Chief's virtual assistant.

Others, however, believed that the character is Sarah Palmer, the protagonist of top-down shooter Halo: Spartan Assault.

Now, however, Executive Producer Josh Holmes has stepped forward on Twitter to confirm that the new Spartan is an all-new male character.

"For everyone speculating about the mysterious Spartan in Halo 5: Guardians, he’s not Palmer (or Cortana!). He’s a NEW character," he told fans.

Microsoft promised more details at E3 2014 so you might expect to hear something about the new character's origin at that time.
