Josh Holmes, who is the creative director working on Halo 4, has revealed that the upcoming Master Chief adventure would allow the player to explore wide open areas without actually setting a clear path to his objective.

Speaking to Joystiq the developer said, “There are definitely design tenets that we hold dear – things that we think are central to the Halo experience – and one of those is empowerment of player choice, making sure that players are presented challenges, but not really told specifically ‘this is the way that you have to approach this’.”

He added, “You’re given a set of tools and sort of set free to overcome this obstacle any way you choose, and that – for me – is at the core of what makes Halo’s gameplay great.”

Halo 4 will be launched exclusively on the Xbox 360 on November 6.

The game focuses on the confrontation between Master Chief and a Forerunner and his support forces.
