The mod is only an alpha and has a lot of bugs, but the game is playable

Grim Fandango is a game that ranks high on many people's favorites list, but unfortunately it has not aged very well, due in no small part to the antiquated movement system.

Grim Fandango uses 3D graphics overlayed on pre-rendered static backgrounds, and the controls have been described as "tank-like." Players used the left and right arrows to steer and forward and back for moving, which was pretty much the industry norm during those days, used in many other adventure games such as Twinsen's Odyssey.

Fortunately, an industrious fan has developed a mod for the 1998-released adventure game, allowing players to enjoy it using more adequate mouse controls. The new system is much more comfortable, but it's only in its alpha state, and as developer Tobias Pfaff warns, it still has many bugs.

The mod can be found on the ResidualVM forums, and the video above offers a glimpse of it in action.
