Ideas need to be backed up by impressive technology

Cevat Yerli, the chief executive officer at Crytek, says that the various technical elements of a video game, from graphics to audio, represent 60 percent of an experience and contribute decisively to its success.

Speaking to the Xbox 360 Magazine, the executive says, "People say that graphics don’t matter, but play Crysis and tell me they don’t matter."

He adds, "Graphics, whether it’s lighting or shadows, puts you in a different emotional context and drives the immersion, and immersion is effectively the number one thing we can use to help you buy into the world."

The first title in the Crysis series has delivered impressive graphics, but has also impressed in the gameplay department, something that Crytek has failed to replicate with the two sequels it has launched so far.

Rumors suggest that their new game Ryse will be linked to the new Xbox 720 from Microsoft.
