It’s been about six months since Google was last rumored to be ready to enter the hardware market and new reports are suggesting that the Internet giant is working on a new console that will compete directly with the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

Via Polygon comes word from anonymous sources that are familiar with the development, claiming that Google is actually working to make sure that it has a competitor for the moment Apple enters the gaming market.

The Google home console does not have an internal name at the moment and the company is handling the entire development process.

It’s unclear when the device might be launched or how much support it would get from developers.

Android fans can already get access to the Ouya console, which uses the operating system.
