The Games for Windows Live Marketplace will go permanently offline next week, on August 22, after the elimination of MS Points, as Microsoft is apparently ready to shut down the online store.

Games for Windows Live was supposed to be a version of the Xbox Live service for PC games but, sadly, the implementation was buggy, filled with issues, and had plenty of problems.

Now, the Marketplace section of the online service will soon be taken offline, as Microsoft posted an official statement on Facebook.

"As part of the recent Xbox 360 system update, Microsoft Points will be retired and the Xbox.com PC Marketplace will be closed as of August 22, 2013. We encourage you to spend your Microsoft Points balance prior to this change. Although you will not be able to purchase new games, you can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client software as usual," the company said.

Some In-game purchases and DLC will still be available, but Microsoft doesn't guarantee anything as publishers will decide this.
