The peripheral is great but it's had a tough time, apparently

Criterion Games' Matt Webster, the leader of the Electronic Arts-owned studio, believes that the Kinect sensor is a great piece of hardware but that it's been let down by actual games that didn't use it to its full potential.

Last month, a heated debate appeared concerning the Kinect, as Microsoft pulled the new version of the peripheral from the standard Xbox One bundle, in order to lower its price from 499 USD/EUR to 399 USD/EUR.

However, the Kinect has been the victim of unfair judgment, according to Criterion Games leader Matt Webster, who talked with TrustedReviews about the state of the small peripheral sensor.

"I love Kinect and think it is brilliant but I think Kinect has had a really [tough] time," Webster said. "Personally speaking, I think that Kinect has had a tough time from people judging it unfairly. It is there for us to use in innovative and imaginative ways. If games haven’t done that, it’s not the fault of the hardware."

Criterion is currently working on an ambitious project and Webster doesn't exclude the possibility of it using the Kinect on the Xbox One.

"Can I see a way of us using Kinect in a really fun and interesting way? Yeah, definitely, just like we did with cameras in Burnout Paradise."

However, Criterion is far from ready to reveal any specific gameplay, so expect to hear more in the future.
