A minority is unwilling to pay in order to get a complete experience

Nick Earl, a senior vice president of Electronic Arts, says that most gamers are happy to use the freemium business model, which mixes free-to-play experiences with extra content delivered via microtransactions.

GamesIndustry quotes the executive as saying that, “The market has spoken very loudly that that’s the model they like. Even though there’s some vocal minority that don’t like it, ultimately the numbers would show that they and others all support the freemium model better.”

Electronic Arts’ Real Racing 3 was criticized for the way it used microtransactions to modify the game experience.

The publisher believes that it’s impossible to create a model that satisfies all players and future Electronic Arts products, like the reboot of Command & Conquer, are designed to use freemium in order to get a big audience and solid revenue.
