GameStop has welcomed the sudden change in used games policy for the Xbox One, congratulating Microsoft on finally understanding the importance of the pre-owned market.

The Xbox One sparked a huge controversy when it was officially revealed to the world, as Microsoft confirmed that the next-gen console will impose restrictions on used games.

The company has now done a complete change in policy, basically allowing all used games to be played on the console and eliminating the need for 24-hour online checks.

Large retailer GameStop, whose business relies heavily on used games, welcomes this change.

"GameStop welcomes today's announcement from Microsoft about changes in functionality for its next-generation console, the Xbox One," a representative told Polygon.

"This is great news for gamers and we applaud Microsoft for understanding consumers and the importance of the pre-owned market."

Even when Microsoft's policy was announced, GameStop said that it was supportive of the company's decisions regarding used games.
