A new report suggests that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V has cost more than 265 million dollars (205 million Euro) to create, making it one of the most expensive video game development projects in history.

The Scotsman quotes inside information for the evaluated cost of the game and says that its budget dwarfs those of a number of high-profile Hollywood movies and that, at the moment, only Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End was more expensive to create.

The development team at Rockstar has not offered any hint about the costs associated with its coming game, but its leadership is known for its commitment to quality.

It's unclear whether the estimate also includes the funds required to promote the game and offer post-launch support.

GTA V will be launched on all major markets on September 17, playable on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
