Leslie Benzies, the president of Rockstar North, is suggesting that the newly revealed Grand Theft Auto Online might at one point be launched on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

At the moment though, the focus of his team is to create and deliver the best possible experience on the current generation of devices from Sony and Microsoft.

He tells CVG that, "There’s very few games like GTA Online – so we’ll play it by ear and see what the consumers want. We’ll get the current gen version out first and see what happens in the future."

GTA Online will be offered for free to all those who buy GTA V and will be launched on October 1, allowing up to 16 players to inhabit a virtual world that they can shape to their will.

The game offers both competitive and cooperative experiences and each GTA Online will evolve based on how its players behave.

GTA V is set to arrive on September 17 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
