Video game publisher Electronic Arts says that it has managed to keep spending flat, especially on Research & Development, despite the need to create new technology for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 next-gen consoles.
Frank Gibeau, the leader of the Labels division, tells VentureBeat that, “When you have a proven technology base with tools that work and you’re able to move teams around, because they’re all trained on the same engine, it makes for efficient and low-risk development.”
Electronic Arts had invested in the creation of the new Frostbite 3 engine at DICE before the consoles were officially announced and plans to use it for most of its big next-gen titles.
Some developers were worried that increased game creation costs would make it harder to launch their games on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
The two new consoles are both expected to arrive in November.
