The upcoming PlayStation Vita exclusive Freedom Wars sounds much more enticing now that the western release is official.

The game's main focus is exploring various combat mechanics, and Sony has been keeping a tight lid on the game, not revealing any specifics regarding the gameplay.

The story presents a distant Earth, where humankind is running low on resources, and, as such, harsh penal colonies have been created to take care of the overpopulation problem. You play an unfortunate soul residing in one such Panopticon, who has to fight in order to reduce his 1-million-year prison sentence.

Freedom Wars is being developed by Sony Computer Entertainment in collaboration with Dimps and Shift, and it will be shipped with four play modes and local multiplayer that supports up to four players.

Sony has disclosed plans to deliver an update later on, adding four additional game modes, online multiplayer with support for up to 8 players as well as Player vs. Player modes.

The company has also released a new trailer for the game, offering a glimpse of the dystopian future and never-ending war, introducing some of the characters in the upcoming Vita exclusive.

Freedom Wars is currently scheduled to launch in Japan on June 26, and sometime later on in North America and Europe.
