The game will be created even without crowdfunding

The Kickstarter effort for the Republique title from Camouflaj seems destined to fail, but the main force behind the new studio believes that it was a good idea to ask fans for half a million dollars even if the funding never materializes.

Ryan Payton, the founder of Camouflaj, told PocketGamer that, “But with that said, I don’t think that asking for $500,000 was too much. We asked for what we needed. If we had set the bar lower, I’m not sure how I would have messaged it.

“I would have had to come up with some fabricated excuse as to why we would only need $200,000, and I don’t think that’s what Kickstarter should be about. I think we need to be honest and transparent with the community.”

Payton says that the money required to create Republique at Camouflaj is smaller than it would be if a major publisher were involved.

The game will be created even if the Kickstarter effort fails, but the development teams believes that it might lose some of the creative control over the franchise.
