The team at car manufacturer Ford announces that it is now using the Oculus Rift virtual reality tech, which was first created for gaming, in order to speed up the process of prototyping cars and to evaluate their early design issues.

VG247 states that staff uses the helmet in order to walk around the area, checking out a vehicle in virtual form and being able to communicate with a number of other engineers.

Ford says that the entire process is cheaper than using traditional CAD software and can also be faster.

The Oculus Rift was created using money from Kickstarter backers and since then, the company behind it has also managed to secure extra funds needed to create better versions of it.

The main aim of the Oculus Rift is to create complex virtual experiences for players and there are a number of titles that already support it.
