Firaxicon was the first ever event dedicated to the development studio that has been delivering Civilization titles for the past few years and expanding the turn-based strategy genre with launches like the new XCOM.

During the show, Sid Meier, who is the leader of the studio and one of the most important game designers in the industry, sits down with Jake Solomon, one of the leading game makers at the company, offering info on his career and on the titles that he has been involved with over the years.

At the moment, the core team at Firaxis is working on Civilization: Beyond Earth, which is positioned as a sort of spiritual successor for Alpha Centauri and will be offered before the end of the month.

Gamers will be able to explore an alien world using a variety of factions, and the studio is introducing a range of new ideas, including a tech web and new military-focused options.

Sid Meier has not led the creation of the turn-based strategy experience and it’s unclear whether he is at the moment focused on the development of a new classic Civilization experience.

The game maker has been overseeing Firaxis titles for a while and has been more hands-on with the mobile spin-off.
