Video game publisher Square Enix confirms that it is working on a new PC port for its classic action role-playing game Final Fantasy VIII, which is at the moment only set to launch on the Japanese market, although a Western port is also possible.

The game was first released in 1999 and the new version is designed to introduce High Definition graphics, although the company is not yet willing to talk about the possibility of adding any extra content, according to Kotaku.

A port of the game was launched one year after the console debut, but many players believe it does not do the game justice.

Square Enix has promised that more information about the future of the Final Fantasy series, including a potential video game for the PlayStation 4, will be offered during E3 2013.
