Video game developer and publisher Square Enix is announcing that it is working on a new shooter that is based around the mecha concept, called Figureheads, which will be launched exclusively on the PC at some point in the future.

The company says that two teams of five players will be able to face off against one another and that the entire experience will be free-to-play, although no clear details about pricing have been announced.

Square Enix says Figureheads will be a strategic shooter, which means those who take part will have to pay attention to teamwork and the powers of their characters.

The story of the game is based around a major disaster that took place when a meteor entered the orbit of Earth and dropped fragments that destroyed a lot of cities and has polluted the ground, with the survivors pushed into underground shelters.

Figureheads will include the robots that were then developed in order to allow humanity to actually explore the surface, and it features an organization called W2BF, which is organizing the sport.

It's unclear whether the mecha-based video game will be only launched on the Japanese market or if Square Enix is aiming to also deliver it in North America and Europe.
