Future Assassin's Creed games might feature all sorts of possible historical settings and Ubisoft isn't ruling out Feudal Japan, especially since the franchise's Animus tech can take players to many different locations.

The Assassin's Creed franchise has featured a wide array of historical settings, from the Middle East during the Crusades, to Renaissance Italy, America during the famous Revolution, or the Golden Age of Piracy.

Ubisoft Montreal's Creative Director Jean Guesdon has once again emphasized that Feudal Japan, alongside other possible locations, are still in the running for future games in the series.

"Feudal Japan remains – like numerous other time periods and locations – a possible future setting for the franchise because thanks to the Animus. The entire human history is our playground," he told VG247.

While it seems at first that the games have been progressing through history in a linear manner, last year's Black Flag took place in the early 1700s, as opposed to Assassin's Creed 3, which focused on the late 1700s.

Other time periods in the Assassin's Creed franchise were chronicled by the comic books or animated movies.
