A new wave of phishing scams concerning FIFA 14 players has hit the web, this time targeting those who use the Instagram social network, as scammers have set up fake EA Sports and FIFA accounts with links to websites used to hijack the Origin or even Xbox Live accounts of players.

FIFA games have been constantly plagued by security problems, as lots of hackers and scammers target the titles and their players due to the vibrant black market for FIFA Ultimate Team items.

After seeing quite a lot of regular phishing attempts via emails or messages, or even using brute force to hack into the accounts of FIFA players, a new type of scam has appeared online via the Instagram social network.

According to IGN, suspicious individuals have set up fake EA Sports Instagram accounts and use hashtags relating to FIFA 14, FIFA Ultimate Team, or the World Cup to draw in fans.

In each photo, they also promise a free Team of the Week player for those who follow a special link that takes them to a page where they have to input their Origin username or password, as well as extra data like their Xbox Live account.

As you can imagine, the websites aren't official and the scammers will use the data to quickly hijack the account in question.

As such, always be careful what links you follow and bear in mind that, if it's not an official EA Sports account or promotion, you won't get any actual content.
