Gamers will be unable to re-create classic World Cup matches

The development team at EA Sports announces that it is launching a maintenance period for FIFA 14 starting from 8:30 AM Greenwich Mean Time, which is set to conclude at 12 PM GMT, although the company is not yet saying exactly why the online features of the game need to be taken down.

The announcement comes from the official Twitter account of the company, and the studio is promising to deliver an update if the period is longer than initially expected.

Gamers who love FIFA 14 will be able to play all the modes locally, but they will not be able to join friends in online-based experiences, including the Kick-Off and the Ultimate Team modes that feature World Cup Brazil content and allow fans to recreate last night’s historic defeat of the host nation at the hands of Germany.

EA Sports is not willing to state exactly why the maintenance is needed, given that a similar period was introduced earlier in the week, but the studio might be getting ready to fix some issues with the game or to finally update its infrastructure to eliminate connectivity problems.

At the moment, the company is working on FIFA 15, which is set to arrive at the end of September on the PlayStation 4, the PC, the Xbox One, and current-gen consoles.

UPDATE: EA Sports says that the maintenance for FIFA 14 is now done and the game should be working normally on all platforms.
