Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley has revealed that EverQuest Next Landmark, the creation tool developed in parallel to EverQuest Next, may hit the water during the last half of January.

Players in Europe and North America have the opportunity to register for the beta of both EverQuest Next and its sandbox standalone tool EverQuest Next Landmark since October.

But now, a recent tweet from CEO John Smedley reveals that players will be able to see the game even sooner than the aforementioned February 28 date, “It's looking like our Alpha for EQNL is going to start sometime in the last half of January. Very excited!”

Very exciting news indeed, via Joystiq. Last month, the devs put out a video showing some of the tools available to players in EverQuest Next Landmark, available at the bottom of this article.

In EverQuest Next Landmark, players are able to create object which they can then sell for in-game money at a marketplace stall or even monetize them via the Player Studio, trades taking place for real currency.

EverQuest Next Landmark tries to emulate the wild success of Minecraft-type titles and apply it to the very anticipated EverQuest Next, apparently, and odds are, it's going to be both a fun and profitable experience for players.
