Sony Online Entertainment announces that it plans to launch a companion game for EverQuest Next called Landmark, which will be focused on construction and exploration mechanics and will have similarities with Minecraft.

The game will be entirely free-to-play and will be launched during the winter months.

Players will be able to explore areas of the game world, stake a claim to them and build assets that can then be shared with the community.

All the tools in EverQuest Next – Landmark are the same used by the SOE team to create its MMO content.

Good created content can be sold for real world money and might even be picked by Sony for inclusion in EverQuest Next.

The new MMO will offer a classless experience, destructible environments, complex quest chains and NPCs that have actual goals and intelligence.

It currently has no launch date.
