The team at Paradox Interactive is ready to announce the three short stories that won the Europa Universalis IV-based writing competition and which will be included in the upcoming “What If?” anthology, that also includes content from professional writers.

In an official forum announcement, the company states that the winning entries are:

“Company” – Luke Bean: A masterful depiction of a brutal German history that never was, seen through the eyes of a boy. “Ecureuils” – Aidan Darnell Hailes: A moving portrait of a woman in an alternate modern US, showing how history is not just in old books – its consequences affect us all, in everyday life. “The Great Work” – Felix Cook: A thriller take on a plausible yet very different Britain and Scandinavia, a century after a successful Gunpowder Plot.

More than 100 entries were submitted by the Europa Universalis IV fan community, and a number of other honorable mentions and writers of the future are highlighted by the company.

The full short story anthology called “Europa Universalis 4: What If? The Anthology of Alternative History” will be launched soon by the book publishing arm of Paradox and will also include a story from Harry Turtledove, the best-known writer in the genre.

Europa Universalis IV will get the new Wealth of Nations expansion before the end of spring.
