Mark Rein, a vice president at developer Epic Games, says that the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the unannounced Xbox 720 from Microsoft will feature complex systems for free-to-play video games and possibilities for in-app purchases.

Joystiq is quoting the developer at the Game Horizon event as saying that, “The next-gen consoles are going to be fully embracing the free-to-play and these IAP-type business models. Sony and Microsoft are both going heavily in that area.”

Apparently, at the moment, both Sony and Microsoft are offering information about the systems only to developers.

Gamers will find out more when titles using the features will be officially announced.

Microsoft has a big reveal event for the Xbox 720 on May 21 and information about free-to-play titles for the device might be offered during the presentation.
