Playing XCOM, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Blood Knights and Deadfall Adventures

Andrei Dumitrescu: The good news is that I have more awesome games than ever competing for my time and the bad news is that real-life events, like rugby and anniversaries, will give me just a few precious hours to actually play this weekend.

I plan to spend most of them with XCOM: Enemy Within, the expansion that Firaxis has created for last year’s Enemy Unknown.

This might be labeled as an old-school expansion, but it feels like a remake that keeps everything that made the turn-based experience such a hit when it first launched, while also adding a number of new ideas, like mechs and a covet human enemy faction, that immediately captured my imagination.

I plan to test out the powered armor that squad members can use during my first playthrough and I aim to take the EXALT out as soon as possible before dealing with the alien invaders.

But, as always, no plan survives contact with the enemy and I suspect I will experience plenty of failures before I find a formula for success.

Andrei Dobra: The last few games I reviewed, Deadfall Adventures and Blood Knights, haven't exactly delighted me, as you could tell from the scores, so I'll dedicate this weekend to a much more pleasant experience – Lego Marvel Super Heroes, the next iteration in Traveller's Tales' great Lego-based franchise.

While I only tried out previous games like the Harry Potter or Star Wars ones for a short amount of time, Marvel Super Heroes is looking like a much more pleasant experience. What's more, seeing as how I'm on a Marvel binge, thanks to new movies like Thor 2: Dark World, and the mobile game Marvel Puzzle Quest Dark Reign, it's right up my alley.

When I am not smashing bricks in a virtual world, I'll probably go back to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and try out some of the new customized weapons that are a part of the Arms Deal 2 collection.
