Playing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar

Andrei Dumitrescu: This weekend I will finally have an entirely new strategy title to spend time with, and I plan to take full advantage of the opportunity to explore the interesting Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar experience.

The title is created by a small team and aims to faithfully replicate the way Ancient warfare work, with an emphasis on the huge impact that logistics and careful planning have on the result of the various battles and wars.

I remember playing the previous titles in the series, but the new installment is designed to introduce a number of new ideas and mechanics, which I look forward to thoroughly explore while also learning some new historical facts about the Romans and their enemies.

New ideas can quickly tire my feeble gaming brain, and that means I might also need to return to some of the familiar experiences that I enjoy regardless of my day or my mood.

That means that I will continue my long-running career managing Liverpool in the virtual space, nurturing new talent, and trying to win the Champions League, just as the world team plays in the real world and tries to finally make it to the podium in the English Premier League.

Andrei Dobra: This weekend I'm going to jump into quite a few different games across multiple platforms. First up, there's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 on the PC.

I played a bit of the original hack and slash game and enjoyed its imaginative weapons, although the story was a bit convoluted, especially if you went into the DLC packs.

Now, I'm keen on making a bit of sense about the whole narrative and on seeing just what new things the developers at MercurySteam have managed to do with the latest game.

When I’m not hacking and slashing my way in Lords of Shadow 2, I'll probably go back to Thief on the Xbox One, as I want to try out different play styles in certain missions. On my first playthrough I was a bit aggressive and violent, and I really want to feel the satisfaction of doing a Ghost run.

Last but not least, I'm going to jump back into Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and continue unlocking new personalization options for my different characters. I also want to try out the Garden Ops cooperative mode on higher difficulties, so let's hope I get more players to join up.
