Playing Christmas games, Game of Thrones, Terraria, Counter-Strike

Andrei Dumitrescu: With Christmas coming up fast, I have struggled with the question of how I could use a single video game to get my entire extended family to understand how passionate I am about the genre and why they should be interested too.

I quickly ran out of ideas and I have a feeling that once more, I will abandon video games in favor of board-based titles.

My family played a lot of Game of Thrones last year, which generated a moderate amount of mirth and some pretty interesting rivalries.

At the same time, some members of the extended clan have claimed that the violence and the treachery are not suited to the holiday spirit of Christmas.

This year, I plan to introduce them all to Battlestar Galactica and the kind of tense situations it can create.

And, for those who are interested in something simple that can still deliver plenty of fun, I will also take along the Kickstarted Greedy Wizards.

As far as video games go, I will probably only be able to play Game of Thrones Ascent.

Andrei Dobra: This weekend will be spent with quite a few different games, some for review while others just for fun.

First up, there's Darkout, the side-scrolling survival game that recently came out for the PC. While I'm not that into similar games like Minecraft or Terraria, I am looking forward to see how I can survive in its procedurally generated world.

After that, I'll probably go back to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, especially since all the new items, weapons, and cases in the Winter Offensive update are looking really good.

Last but not least, I'll probably try out some of the new games that I got during the current Steam Winter Sale of 2013. I just got Speedrunners and quite a few other discounted titles are tempting me.
