Playing Super Meat Boy, Jamestown, Command & Conquer, Generals

Andrei Dumitrescu: One week to go till Christmas and, despite the fact that somehow time seems to move around slower, gaming is not the main thing on my mind.

This week I will play the real-life combination of strategy game, adventure and role playing that is shopping for presents for my loved ones, trying to get clues about what they would like to get, managing financial resources and plotting the routes through shops that maximize the potential for great gifts while minimizing the resources spent.

After getting back home, I will download and play Command & Conquer: Generals, the swan song of the venerable strategy series, because I want a taste of what is being prepared for the sequel that Victory Games is developing inside BioWare.

And I might even try and play Command & Conquer 4 a little, a game that I never managed to like when it came out, although it did some pretty interesting things.

Andrei Dobra: I took advantage of the Humble Indie Bundle 4 this week, so I now have a series of high-quality indie titles that I can enjoy in the next few days.

I already finished Shank on my PlayStation 3, so that game is pretty much out of the question, but I’m more than looking forward to trying out Jamestown, just to remember my younger days when I’d spend a huge amount of time with such vertical shooter games.

I also put off trying out Super Meat Boy or Bit.Trip Runner for quite some time, so I’m keen on seeing how far I can go in both games before just quitting out of frustration, like I often do when it comes to these experiences that rely heavily on muscle memory.

A colleague often praised Gratuitous Space Battles for its effects, so I’m also going to try and create some of the most expansive armies of space ships I can think of, and then sending it to battle against my enemies.

Last but not least, if I still have some free time, I might try out the last two games in the bundle, Night Sky HD and Cave Story+ although I’m not that excited about either of them.
