Playing Vietnam '65 and Game of Thrones: Ascent

Vietnam '65 is not a game for a wide audience, and when I started playing it, I suspected that I would drop the experience once I was done with my review and had about 15 hours of it under my belt.

This weekend, I am spending Easter with my extended family, happily talking, eating and drinking, but when I find some spare time I plan to play the turn-based strategy title some more.

The great thing about Vietnam '65 is that a campaign takes about two hours, depending on how much the player spends thinking, and I can sneak in and turn on my laptop while also being present for the conversation.

The title created by Ever Single Soldier has another positive quality: the rules are clear and engaging, and a 45-turn campaign does not have a clear result until it ends.

The dual pressure of Hearts & Minds and Political Points makes the player feel both very powerful and helpless, depending on how a turn goes, and keeps the tension up.

Vietnam '65 is not the best looking or the most complex video game, but it does offer an almost endlessly repayable experience.

Game of Thrones: Ascent is also on the menu this weekend, even if this AvA phase, my alliance is not aiming for any major performance.
