Video game publisher Square Enix admits that it has considered the possibility of allowing the Eidos development to studio work on the Final Fantasy series, although a decision on the matter has not been made yet.

The Official Xbox Magazine quotes Yuji Abe, the gameplay director working on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, as saying that “That’s certainly been discussed within the company, the possibility of say, Eidos or maybe someone else to look after or maybe take on the Final Fantasy series.”

Motomu Toriyama, the director, says that the franchise benefits from the fact that it changes nature with every iteration and that a Western development team might introduce some interesting changes.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be launched on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 on February 11 in the US and February 14 in the EU.

The game will end the Fabula Nova Crystallis series.
