The online service won't be accessible from the Xbox One until launch day

Xbox One consoles that have been shipped earlier than anticipated won't be able to connect to the Xbox Live online service, as Microsoft has taken the decision to limit those leaked units.

The Xbox One is set to debut next week, on November 22 but, as we saw over the weekend, retailer Target has shipped a few units early, leading to quite a few reveals and leaks online.

In order to prevent such things from happening until launch day, Microsoft has confirmed via the blog of Community Manager Larry Hryb that these early consoles won't be able to access the Xbox Live online service until "closer to launch date."

As such, if you do get your hands on a new Xbox One before November 22, you won't be able to use it as you can't connect to Xbox Live and can't download the special system software update that actually makes the console operational.
