CCP, developer of massively multiplayer online game EVE Online, announced that their players have donated over $190K / €138K to the Icelandic Red Cross, in order to help the people of the Philippines recover from Typhoon Haiyan.

The sum was raised through CCP's PLEX for GOOD campaign, a program that allows EVE Online players to donate in-game currency to charities.

Starting November 20, CCP began accepting donations of the Pilot's License Extensions (representing one month of game time in EVE Online) that can be bought and sold on the in-game markets. For each PLEX offered, CCP donated $15 /€11 to the typhoon relief efforts of the Icelandic Red Cross.

The campaign culminated on December 7, with an 8+ hours stream on Twitch, during which EVE Online developers pledged unique donations as fundraising milestones were met.

CCP members pledged developer boxing matches, male and female head shaving, sparring versus a Tae Kwon Do champion and even getting shot with one paintball for every $2K / €1.5K raised.

Players' total donations amounted to approximately 1060 years of play time, which translated in over $190K / €138K for the charity.
