Players will be able to create more worldwide wars

The team at the Paradox Development Studios says that the colonial nations that will be introduced in the new Conquest of Paradise expansion for Europa Universalis IV are designed to expand gameplay options and show how hard it was to deal with overseas political entities.

Any colony that evolves a lot can become a nation, which means that it will have to pay tariffs to its overlord, while also lending half of its trade power.

It is able to execute some diplomatic maneuvers on its own and it can go to war with other colonial nations and native tribes.

Paradox wants this mechanics to create hotspots all around the world, allowing the overlord nation to intervene if it wants, either to try to keep its colony in check or to use the occasion to grab even more land.

The studio says, “The cool thing is that you can see a colony starting its own little war of conquest, finding out it is in over its head, then the overlord steps in and that triggers another escalation, and, before you know it, the small colonial war that appeared to be of little consequence has escalated into a global conflict.”

Conquest of Paradise for EU IV launches on January 14, 2014.
