Native American gameplay is more interesting than before

Traditionally, the Europa Universalis series made uncivilized nations a choice to play because they needed to complete a series of tasks in order to catch up to their Western neighbors or accept that they would be left behind from the tech point of view and eventually conquered.

The Conquest of Paradise expansion for the most recent game in the franchise changes the situation for the Native American tribes and allows the player to use some new mechanics in order to get a faster patch towards westernization and possibly a brighter destiny.

I started out a game with the Cherokee in a randomized North America and I quickly tried to explore my surrounding, keep up relations with my fellow Indians and decide who are my most powerful rivals.

In about 30 years, I had a confederation which included 10 tribes and I had already managed to take out two powerful tribes that declared war on me.

I had also completed all the tribal tech advances I had access to, which means that all I needed was a European power next to me in order to launch a full reform of my government and become an important player on the continent.

I had to wait another 10 years to first spot a Portuguese ship off the shores of my newly colonized province and another 3 until the Spanish finally made landfall.

They quickly colonized a province of their own and then probably declared war upon me.

My entire confederation backed me, but the Spanish, probably feeling that they were in a safe position in Europe, poured three armies in North America and quickly took out four of my five provinces.

I recruited all the mercenaries I had access to and, together with a few allied armies, made a final stand in Waco, my capital.

Our archers were no match for the steel of the Spanish and my first Native American game ended in decisive defeat.
