Music giant says game developers faled to secure rights

EMI, one of the big record industry companies dominating the music market at the moment, has launched a lawsuit against 4mm Games and Terminaly Reality, the two companies involved in the development and launch of the karaoke game Def Jam Rapstar.

EMI claims that the two video game companies have not managed to secure the rights to much of the music that was features in Def Jam Rapstar, including songs from very popular artists like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, DMX and others.

The music company has requested the appropriate royalty compensation but did not receive and answer ad is now asking for 8.1 million dollars (6.06 million Euro) in reparations for the 54 songs that were used without the proper copyright.

Def Jam Rapstar was launched during 2010 on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the Wii and failed to get a dedicate following, which led to the cancelation of a planned sequel during 2011.
