The development team at Maxis working on SimCity is ready to start a wider conversation about mods and user-generated content linked to the title in order to allow the community to get a more varied experience in the near future.

In an official forum post, the team states, "Our goal is to ensure that we provide a place for all of our players to have fun while assuring them that the gameplay experience is safe and has integrity. It’s difficult to determine what makes a “good” or safe mod and what mods cross the line."

SimCity already has a number of available mods, but some of them do not allow gamers to engage in multiplayer and some enable actions that could be seen as cheats.

The forum post is offering a first draft for guidelines linked to user-generated content and the team is also asking the community a number of questions that will influence its future policy.

The team is currently working on a Cities of Tomorrow expansion.
