The development team at Electronic Arts says that it has no plans to launch any future video game that lacks an online component.

Peter Moore, the chief operation officer at the company, is quoted by GamesIndustry.biz as saying that “We don't ship a game at EA that is offline.”

He adds, “Gamers either want to be connected so their stats and achievements reflect who they are, or you want the full multiplayer experience on top of that.”

Electronic Arts is one of the publishers who is seeking to push social titles and connected experiences while also making it easy for gamers to get access to new content via digital distribution services like Origin.

The fact that a game has an online element does not mean that players are forced to actually use it.

The team working on The Sims 4 says that the game can be played offline, after the problems SimCity faced on launch, but that the experience will be much better for those who connect with other players.
