Although Star Wars: Battlefront does not yet have a release date, publisher Electronic Arts mentioned that the most favorable time would be sometime close to the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII" movie's release.

Patrick Soderlund, EA Studios' EVP, said during the firm's investor call last night that although the upcoming game wasn't linked to J. J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, he would still prefer to have it out as close to the movie's release window as possible.

"What we're building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made. And that's just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars," Soderlund added.

"Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn't say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn't say that we're directly tied to it," he continued.

Star Wars: Episode VII is slated for theatrical release on December 18, 2015, and EA mentioned a while back that we would be getting the first look at Battlefront sometime during next year's spring. That is, if the lens flare doesn't prevent us from making anything out.
