The system the online shooter uses might then be extended

Sony and CCP are working together on the possibility of offering micro-transactions for the upcoming Dust 514 online shooter on both the PlayStation 3 home console and the Vita handheld.

Hilmar Pétursson, the leader of CCP, told Develop, “We're having many meetings with Sony to ensure they have solid policies on virtual currency. Given the amount of back and forth there, we can definitely see us breaking new ground.”

David Reid, marketing executive at Sony, added, “We are both trailblazing together. CCP and Sony are right there in the same room figuring all this out together. I've only joined the company for about 72 hours and about half that time is speaking to Sony.”

It seems that Sony is eager to use Dust 514 as a prototype and might then extend the created system to other MMOs on the PS3 and the PC, and maybe even to other titles that use the PSN infrastructure.
