PS4 owners have engaged in a heated debate around the Driveclub PS Plus Edition digital upgrade, which costs 50 USD/EUR but will become unavailable if their PlayStation Plus subscription expires.

Driveclub is set to debut in October, and developer Evolution alongside publisher Sony has promised that a free version of the game will be offered to active PS Plus subscribers.

After sharing more details about its contents, as it includes a limited number of cars and tracks, Evolution has revealed that Plus subscribers will be able to buy a digital upgrade to the full edition of the game for 50 USD/EUR.

There's a catch, however, as it seems that the upgrade remains tied to the PS Plus subscription. If that expires, then players won't be able to play the racing game.

As you can imagine, this hasn't exactly gone down so well with fans, with many complaining about the fact on the PS blog and other social networks.

Game Director Paul Rustchynsky has revealed on Twitter that he is investigating the different terms and conditions and will offer more details in the near future.

You can expect to see some changes to the Driveclub PS Plus edition and its full upgrade in the following months, ahead of the game's debut in October for PS4.
