David Gaider, the writer in charge of the Dragon Age franchise, says that many players have misunderstood the second game in the series and what BioWare was trying to achieve with it.

In an interview given to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, he says that the experience was not about heroism and the power of the individual, but about the balance between freedom and security, perfectly exemplified by the conflict between the Templars and the Mage's Circle.

Gaider says, "That had more application than just that, that struggle between the need to have a secure society versus the struggle for individual freedom."

The Dragon Age writer believes that the franchise has the ability to evolve past the traditional elements of the role-playing genre in order to tackle important subjects.

Dragon Age III is called Inquisition and will be launched before the end of 2013.
