Video game developer Double Fine has launched Spacebase DF-9 via the Early Access component of the Steam digital distribution service.

The game is based on one of the ideas that resulted during its Amnesia Fortnight prototype process and allows gamers to build and then manage a space station filled with a number of inhabitants.

Each set of creatures has its own needs and desires and the player will have to deal with them, as well as cope with bigger threats like asteroids and plagues.

Double Fine says that it plans to add more content to the game in the coming months, expanding the number of creatures in Spacebase DF-9 and the options that players have.

At the moment, the studio is working on Broken Age, a classic adventure title that has been split into two releases, and on Massive Chalice, a multi-generational experience that will be launched later in 2014.
