The US servers have periods of downtime that punish players

Dota 2 players around the world are reporting that different servers for the popular multiplayer game, particularly the US East and West ones, are plagued by periods in which high latency (lag) and packet loss destroy any ongoing matches, forcing players to disconnect or abandon them, thereby incurring automatic penalties.

Dota 2 is one of the most popular online games out there and developer Valve has taken great care to release many updates and solve various problems detected by its staff or by the millions of players from around the world.

Unfortunately, Valve's lack of communication makes ongoing problems take on a life of their own, as the developer is notoriously not keen on talking with fans and letting them know what issues it has under investigation.

For the last few days, lag spikes and packet loss have plagued the Dota 2 servers in the United States of America, causing quite a few matches to see all their players disconnect or abandon. What's worse, the Dota 2 feature that's supposed to see that there are poor network conditions and not record any stats or give away any penalties doesn't seem to work.

As such, players who get disconnected by the server still get punished with matchmaking cooldowns and other such things like they actually wanted to abandon the match they were in.

Unfortunately, there's no word from Valve about whether or not these issues are being investigated, so who knows if a fix is coming. Until then, playing a game on the US servers is a gamble, as you never know when lag spikes could happen.
