The studio's faulty management keeps changing the direction of the game

Doom 4's development at legendary studio id Software is in disarray, according to a new report that cites major departures of veteran employees, arrogant management, and constant changes in direction.

Bethesda purchased id Software quite a few years ago, as the independent studio, responsible for cult hits like Doom or Wolfenstein, was ready to align itself with a publisher.

Unfortunately, the union isn't going so well, and there have already been plenty of rumors about terrible work conditions and bad management, even causing the departure of co-founder John Carmack.

Now, a new report from Glassdoor says that things are even worse now that the studio is working on Doom 4.

Apparently, the technology behind the game is in disarray, as a huge chunk of the development team quit en masse to protest against the management and went to join Oculus alongside Carmack.

The Doom 4 team encompassed around 140 staff two years ago and now, due to the constant departures and the reluctance to hire new employees, around 50 people work full time on it.

Those developers are also the victims of the management team, which apparently has the backing of Bethesda and Zenimax, and are constantly changing the direction and the focus of the project every four months or so.

The multiplayer mode of the new game is being outsourced to another studio and the artwork is also being done by freelancers, according to the report.

As of yet, neither Bethesda nor id Software has commented on the rumor.
