The development team working on the new Disney Infinity mix of toys and virtual worlds believes that the nature of the platform allows it to easily integrate characters from Star Wars and Marvel in the coming years.

Bill Roper, one of the leader of the Disney team, tells GamesIndustry.biz that, “We love the potential for Infinity – we always joke, well, ‘the possibilities are infinite’.”

The choice to initially focus on Pirates of the Caribbean, Cars and Monsters was made a while ago when development started, but the developer says that the platform can be adapted to use other universes.

Disney has recently acquired LucasArts and has announced that it is working on a new Star Wars trilogy.

Disney Infinity will be launched in August on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo-made Wii and Wii U and the 3DS handheld.
